The Proteomics core in the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) is hiring a Post Doctoral Associate. ICBR is a fee for service science center focused on enabling scientific discovery and innovation with good customer service and access to world-class biotechnology expertise and instrumentation.
Job Duties:
– Develop, test, and validate new methodologies using mass spectrometry for microbial metabolomics
– Establish a comprehensive target spectral library. The process involves ordering the compounds and optimizing them through mass spectrometry techniques.
– Prepare written SOPs documenting new methodologies; prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals
– Other duties as required.
The Electron Microscopy core in the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) is hiring a Core Research Facility Technician III. ICBR is a fee for service science center focused on enabling scientific discovery and innovation with good customer service and access to world-class biotechnology expertise and instrumentation.
Job Duties:
– Provide quality control and prepare equipment for self-users on the SEM and TEMs. Perform data collection for PIs and researchers. Provide guidance and training on proper sample preparation. Work with research investigators in developing or modifying techniques to appropriately meet project aims and assist with data interpretation. Manage and make necessary decisions on extensive projects in absence of the Core Director
– Prepare research specimens including but not limited to animal and plant tissue and microbes for examination by transmission and scanning electron microscopy, using a wide range of technical procedures.
– Train research investigators on proper use of transmission and scanning electron microscopes as well as ancillary equipment. Conduct customer consultations, data delivery and aid in data interpretation.
– Maintain records of all specimens processed including detailed account of all steps used in processing each specimen. Maintain online scheduling, project tracking and billing within the iLabs system and specimen tracking and inventory with myBiotech.
– Perform advanced techniques such as immunoelectron microscopy, high pressure freezing and freeze substitution (HPF/FS), single particle cryo-TEM and prepare samples and collect data for cryo-SEM.
– Other duties as assigned.
– Perform general maintenance (i.e. replace electron gun filament) and troubleshoot basic problems of electron microscopes and ancillary equipment.
The NextGen DNA Sequencing core in the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) is hiring a Core Research Facility Technician III. ICBR is a fee for service science center focused on enabling scientific discovery and innovation with good customer service and access to world-class biotechnology expertise and instrumentation.
Job Duties:
-Technical Functions
Plan and execute Illumina MiSeq, iSeq, NovaSeq and ONT sequencing runs.
Maintain and troubleshoot Illumina MiSeq, iSeq, NovaSeqand ONTinstruments.
Evaluate MiSeq, iSeq, NovaSeqand ONT instruments data and prepare written reports for research projects.
Construct and perform quality assessment of samples, and sequence libraries for the ONT, PacBio and Illumina platforms.
Test, troubleshoot and implement new protocols for NGS library construction protocol, using novel procedures as they become available in the literature or from vendors.
Perform all basic QC assays that are part of sample preparation processes for NGS, including, but not limited to: Fluorometric assays (on the QUBIT and FLUOstar Omega BMG), size selection protocol (on the SAGE-ELF and gels, magnetic bead purification (AMPure), and DNA fragmentation protocols (Covaris S220 and Covaris E220).
Document all work by using established lab tracking sheets (LTS) and digital documentation tools (FileShare).
Communicate with supervisor and other core personnel about experimental results in a timely and professional manner. Work with supervisor to define deliverables and timelines for project completion.
Contribute to the preparation, updating and organization of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
-General Lab Operation and Maintenance Functions
Evaluate new laboratory methods for the implementation of new services in the NGS core.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of lab tracking system (LIMS) in the NGS workflows.
Attend all relevant coordination and organizational meetings as requested by supervisor.
Contribute to the maintenance of a complete inventory of reagents, consumables and equipment used for NGS sequencing.
Assist lab manager in keeping track of inventories and placing orders of reagents, consumables for ONT, PacBio and Illumina sequencing as needed.
Assist the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) manager for the NextGen lab as needed, for the purpose of complying with all EHS institutional requirements.
– Educational Functions
Keep abreast of new developments in the NGS field through the literature and scientific meetings.
Help in the training of other personnel in the NGS Core group.
Participate in cross-training activities in the NGS core and ICBR as necessary or as requested by lab director.
– Misc.
Help in laboratory organization, cleaning and general maintenance
Receive, store, and help document orders arriving into the lab. Help send off outgoing parcels when requested.
– Other duties as assigned
