Bio

I have been an electron microscopist for over 30 years, specializing in Cryo-TEM of frozen hydrated samples. During that time, I’ve worked mainly with virus samples including time in BSL3 and BSL4 labs and been on teams that solved the structures of West Nile and Dengue and viruses, as well as many combinations of AAV complexed with antibody to help aid targeted AAV mutants for gene therapeutics.

Skills and Specialization

I’ve worked at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Seattle), the National Center for Foreign Animal Disease (Winnipeg) and Purdue University before establishing Cryo-TEM capabilities here at the University of Florida. I’ve been managed or directed facilities for nearly 20 years and designed two EM labs to house state-of-the-art instrumentation. I still find satisfaction in helping researchers “visualize” their sample preps at high magnifications.
