Bio

I trained as a molecular biologist studying small RNA and mRNA processing and transcriptional regulation of gene expression. I have worked in both the academic and drug discovery sectors. At Pfizer, I led a laboratory that used Affymetrix GeneChip technology to support gene expression studies for early drug discovery in dermatology, inflammation, cancer and cardiovascular diseases. I was also the Director of Biobanking at the Coriell Institute for Medical Sciences, which contains one of the world’s human and animal largest biospecimen collection of DNA, blood and cells. As Associate Director for Science in the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research I am responsible for the oversight of 7 core laboratories that provide technical and scientific expertise to a wide range of life science researchers. I have 25 years of experience managing large biotechnology core laboratories, and my background and extensive expertise in genomics, gene expression, and biorepository science provides me with a solid foundation for directing the effective utilization of shared resources under my supervision. I am also the Associate Director for Shared Resources with the University of Florida Health Cancer Center (UFHCC), where I . My roles as UFHCC Associate Director for Shared Resources are to (1) oversee the overall coordination of UFHCC shared resources; (2) integrate and align UFHCC and campus wide technical and scientific instrumentation and biotechnology interests; (3) provide continuous assessments of UFHCC membership use of existing shared resources and determine strategies to ensure alignment and efficient provision of services to support research directions of the UFHCC membership identify needs for new shared resources; and, (4) solicit input from UFHCC members as to effectiveness of shared resources through annual satisfaction surveys and targeted evaluations, summarizing and reporting outcomes to the EC.
